 A Total Scam

I'd give it zero stars if I could. Sure, you can join for free and even sent flirts for free. But if you do, I guarantee that you'll have a message in your mail box the very next day. Unfortunately, it will cost you at least $29.95 to read it, or even see who it's from. And guess what? It won't be from the person you contacted. You're only made to think that it is. It will be from someone in Russia, Romania, or some other eastern block cesspool. Save your money. They're scumbags preying on the lonely and desperate.

Site is Flawed

A problem I have in particular with American Singles is that there is no way you can see what characteristics someone is looking for. Why waste my time and money emailing someone who is looking for someone who is at least 6'2", when I am only 5'10"? Why waste time emailing someone who is looking for a white guy when I am black? Without having this information available, why should I take the chance of spending my money on them? |

It is reasonable that I can only initiate contact if I pay the monthly membership fee. But, it is completely unfair and rediculous that someone with a profile that is not a member cannot respond. |

I was a sucker who purchased a 1 month subscription just so I could reply by e-mail to a tease which was sent me. As long as they can get 1 more membership, they clearly don't care what goes on with their site. Steer clear of AMERICAN SINGLES. |
 Profiles Out of date

One of the major drawbacks to this site is that a lot of the profiles are WAY out of date, and can lead to some confusion - I'm sure someone who posted their profile up here 3 years ago is not still looking to make contact.
I did find, that in some of the more major metropolitan areas - LA and NY in particular there to be a heavy concentration of users, but in pretty much every other area of the country a very limited selection - I guess that's why you can expand your search out to 4000 miles.

Obviously, there are no real women left at American Singles. If you're a member, take your money and run! I suspect that when American Singles pulls it plug, you won't get a refund, unless you fight for it. |
Shameful

You can't even view your emails unless you are a paying member of this terrible site. You can find forgotten profiles on the site from 2002! At least Match.com will kick out an old profile after 5-6 weeks of inactivity.

I like the fact that you can see who has been checking out your profile and you can rate your interest in someone. If you both say "yes," they will let you know by email. It makes it a little easier to make the next move. However I haven't had much luck with emailing. If you're not online you don't get much action. People seem to be more into the IM thing. I would consider the men on this site to be good looking, but use caution becase I've run into a few that are just looking for a hook-up.

This site has a horribly slow, archaic set up. You will find many people who are very unenlightened or uninterested in real relationships and just want some self gratification. The whole thing was nauseating, and to top it all off you can't quit the site. |

This site is okay for the 24.95 a month.I am a very hot girl and have no problem attracting men, but I wanted to try to meet people on personality rather than looks alone. I actually met someone I liked alot on this site out of maybe 500 guys that sent me emails and teases. I also went out with two other not wrong but not right men either.I think the 24.95 I paid for 1 month was worth the new friends and the dinners and drinks I enjoyed on my dates. Also make sure you cancel your membership before your 30 days is up so you do not get recharged.

The percentage of truly obese women is much higher on American Singles than on other online dating servies. There's also a higher number of painfully bad, glurgy or generic profiles; "I'm looking for a white knight to sweep me off my feet", "I love to laugh!", "I work hard and play hard", "Love me, love my 12 cats!", and so on.
If you're a guy, stay away, unless you're homesick for eastern Kentucky.

You are forced to subscribe in order to have any type of communication. Sites such as Match.com and Yahoo Personals have winks and icebreakers, respectively, which you may send for free and you get to view who sent them to you and respond. On American Singles however, you have to subscribe just to look at the people who send you the free teases! Also a lot of the members on the site haven't been active for years! So it appears that they have a very wide range of members when in actuality then don't have that many current members. Big Waste of time on this site!
